Warlock

Warlock is the rarest class in iSRO, probably because it is one of the hardest to play well, however it is fairly common as a sub-class for warriors, and occasionally for wizards and rogues. Warlocks who actually play as Warlocks are best thought of as a support class; they don’t do much damage themselves but the debuffs that they cast can increase the damage done by wizards by an average of 40%, and the buffs they give can completely change a fight. In group PvP it is the Warlock’s job to prevent the enemy cleric from healing, DoT as many enemies as possible and, if the enemies don’t have Holy Spell, debuff them until they cry. In 1v1 PvP Warlocks often have to rely on their sub-class, as a pure warlock can rarely survive for long enough or do enough damage to win.

Choosing the Warlock class allows you to wear Robes, and as a Warlock you will be using a Warlock Rod and a Shield.

[edit] Warlock Builds

The most common Warlock builds are:

  • Warlock/Cleric – Probably the only Warlock that will actually use their Warlock class for damage. Can be either pure int or int hybrid, although it is unadvisable to go more hybrid than 3:1 int:str. Most people would say that going pure int is better because ints are supposed to do damage, but some prefer 3:1 int hybrid for survivability. Warlock/clerics one of the best Euro classes in 1v1 PvP, due to constant healing from Recovery Division, Healing Cycle and the Vampire skills, combined with Daze, Slumber, Dull and Impotent reducing the damage that your enemy can cause, and if necessary Bless Spell.
  • Warrior/Warlock – At the risk of insulting Warrior/Warlocks, this one is most often played by warriors who aren’t good enough to win PvP without debuffs, however if you do decide to play this class you will be very good against Chinese. I don’t really know enough about Warriors to write this one so someone else can have a go.

But you might also see:

  • Warlock/Wizard – The build that does the highest average damage of any build in the game. The idea behind this one is simple: stun them, debuff them, and drop a meteor to one shot them. This build should be pure int, and is not as weak defensively as it sounds, due to a 100% chance of casting Fear most of the time and Earth Fence providing 42% physical damage absorption for 20 seconds, but they do die quite frequently. If fully farmed it is quite versatile during wars because at most 2 people are relying on it for buffs, so a Wizard/Warlock can switch between classes with no real danger to the rest of the party.
  • Rogue/Warlock – Only worth doing on servers where a fair amount of botters are wearing full SoSun gear. This build can do the highest damage of any build in the game. The idea is pretty simple, just debuff an opponent, Trap-Sleep them (explained under Bloody Trap), use Dagger Desperate and 1 shot them dead. This class is the hardest class to PvP against because it is basically designed to win at 1v1. Its main weakness is Warrior/Clerics. Again, this is just overkill.

[edit] Warlock Skills

[edit] Mind Control

Dark Seed (lvl 4, updates every 4 levels): Increases the damage done by your DoT spells by 4% each level. If you PvP as a warlock then get it, if you just use warlock for the statuses then don’t. Pretty simple really.

Strap (lvl 20, updates every 25 levels): Same as above except that if you use the DoTs for causing bleed and dull then you should get this.

Single Target – Cooldown of 3 seconds, instant cast, update every 4 levels

Blaze (lvl 4): This is the least useful spell; only get it if you have a load of sp that you don’t want. It’s only use is in huge wars where everyone has holy spell and 4 AoE DoTs and 3 single target DoTs aren’t enough.

Toxin (lvl 10): Some warlocks prefer this to Curse Breath because it is a shield raise type DoT, meaning that you can use this and Decayed in quick succession.

Decayed (lvl 20): The best single target DoT; it’s a shield raise skill so it can be cast quickly and it causes bleed, one of the best statuses and one of the few to go through Holy Word/ Holy Spell. Consider getting this even if you only use warlock for the debuffs.

Curse Breath (lvl 40): In most peoples opinion this is the second best single target DoT. Causes Dull status against anyone without Holy Word/ Holy Spell. Worth noting that the damage is very slightly lower than the damage done by Decayed and Blaze, but the usefulness of Dull more than makes up for this in most situations.

AoE – Cooldown of 10 seconds, radius 7.0m, short cast time, do not require the single target versions, update every 4 levels

Dark Blaze (lvl 50)'': Like Blaze, but it can hit up to 3 people. Worth getting if you play as a warlock in wars.

Toxin Invasion (lvl 60): Like Toxin, but it can hit up to 3 people. Worth getting if you play as a warlock in wars.

Dark Decayed (lvl 70): Like Decayed, but it can hit up to 3 people. Get this even if you only ever PvE as a warlock.

Dark Breath (lvl 80): Like Curse Breath, but it can hit up to 3 people. Get this even if you only ever PvE as a warlock.

It is worth noting that people caught in the AoE of a DoT will get it regardless of how many DoT’s are already on them. This can be used to get up to 6 DoTs on, for example, a giant, by using single target DoTs on the giant and then luring 2 normal mobs and using AoE DoTs on them.

[edit] Raze

Single Target – Cooldown of 2 seconds, instant cast, update every 10 levels

Physical Raze (lvl 12): 80% chance to cause Decay, a status that reduces Physical defence. Get this if you are a Warrior or Rogue with a warlock sub, otherwise ignore it.

Medical Raze (lvl 24): 80% chance to cause Weaken, a status that reduces Magical defence. Get this if Warlock is your main class, or if you are an int with warlock as your sub.

Combat Raze (lvl 32): 80% chance to cause Impotent, a status that reduces your opponents damage by about a third. Everyone should get this, and it should usually be the first debuff that you cast during PvP.

Courage Raze (lvl 44): 80% chance to cause Division, a status that increases the damage taken and has nothing to do with reducing defence. This means that even against a mangyang, a mob with 7 physical defence and 10 magical defence, this will increase the damage done quite dramatically.

AoE – Cooldown of 7 seconds, radius 10.0m, short cast time, do not require the single target versions, update every 10 levels

Physical Ravage (lvl 64): Same as Physical Raze, but it can hit up to 3 people. Get this regardless of what sort of warlock you are.

Magical Ravage (lvl 76): Same as Medical Raze, but it can hit up to 3 people. Get this if you PvP as a warlock or if you play as a warlock in PvE parties. Consider getting this if you are a Warrior or Rogue/Warlock to help your party members against party giants or in group PvP.

Combat Ravage (lvl 84): Same as Combat Raze, but it can hit up to 3 people. Get this if you PvP as a warlock or if you play as a warlock in PvE parties. Consider getting this if you are a Warrior or Rogue/Warlock to help your party members against party giants or in group PvP.

Courage Ravage (lvl 98, not implemented): Same as Courage Raze, but it can hit up to 3 people. Get this if you PvP as a warlock or if you play as a warlock in PvE parties. Consider getting this if you are a Warrior or Rogue/Warlock to help your party members against party giants or in group PvP.

[edit] Bloody Swarm

Red Flower(lvl 4, updates every 4 levels): Increases the damage done by Bloody Flower and Death Flower by 4% for each level, and is required for the spells in the Blood and Soul Pressure lines. All warlocks should get this.

Trap Booster (lvl 30, updates every 10 levels): Increases the damage done by bloody trap. At Lvl 80 it increases the damage done by 726 and costs about 5.7k sp, so this is not a required skill but every little bit of damage helps, and 726 could easily be the difference between killing a nuker and dying to a nuker.

[edit] Blood

Blood Flower (lvl 4, updates every 4 levels): at 215% damage this is a relatively weak nuke, however against a debuffed opponent this will do good damage. Get this if you use Warlock skills to cause damage in PvP. The cooldown is 3 seconds, allowing you to cast this followed by Death Flower and then this again with no pausing.

Bloody Trap (lvl 44, updates every 10 levels): 80% chance to cause Hidden status, a status that causes a fixed amount of absolute damage after a random time, usually between 3-20 seconds after it has been cast. An essential skill for ever type of warlock as it causes enough damage to kill most pure int characters, unless they have done a fair amount of alchemy, and when followed by Sleep status the opponent will not wake up until the trap has gone off. As with most statuses, this is blocked by Holy Word/Holy Spell.

Death Flower (lvl 50, updates every 4 levels): a 215% damage nuke that hits up to 3 people in a 5.0m radius and has a 7 second Cooldown that isn’t shared by Blood Flower. Get this if you use warlock skills in PvP, and consider getting this if you are a Warrior or Rogue/Warlock to break down firewalls.

Death Trap (lvl 84, updates every 10 levels): An AoE version of trap, and interestingly it is the only skill that has a 100% chance to cause a levelled status in the game. Get this no matter what sort of Warlock you are.

[edit] Soul Pressure

Daze (lvl 16, updates every 10 levels): 80% chance to stun, however most people would say that the probability is more like 90%. Even a low level of this skill will stun high level characters the majority of the time. This is an essential skill. Cooldown of 10 seconds.

Fog Sight (lvl 24, updates every 10 levels): 80% chance to cause Short Sight status, a status that halves the range of any range attacks. Useful in group PvP, or to reduce the chance of a pill/cure removing a better debuff in 1v1 PvP. Worth noting that it also halves the distance of Warrior’s Sprint Assault. Cooldown of 5 seconds.

Illusion (lvl 40, updates every 10 levels): Transforms you into a random character. You will appear different to everyone, and you cannot choose what you appear as. Your emotes will be the same as they would be for the character that you turn into, but you cannot attack, or even use the default attack, for that character and using a warlock skill with break the Illusion. Higher levels of this skill will allow you to be seen as a higher level character, so a low level of this skill is arguably more useful. Cooldown of 5 minutes.

Wrath Daze (lvl 76, updates every 10 levels): An AoE version of Daze, this also has an 80% chance of stun that in practice seems much higher. It has a 20 second cooldown which it doesn’t share with Daze, so with careful timing you can use Daze followed by Wrath Daze and then Daze again to keep someone stunned for 15 seconds.

Shade Illusion (lvl 80, updates every 10 levels): Same as Illusion, but this can transform you into higher level characters, and it lasts for 5 minutes. Requires lvl 4 Illusion and has a cooldown of 5 minutes

Curse Sight (lvl 84, updates every 10 levels): AoE version of Fog Sight, 80% chance to cause Short Sight to up to 3 people in a 10.0m radius. Does not require Fog Sight and has a cooldown of 15 seconds. Optional but recommended for all Warlocks. Can be cast but has no effect on monsters.

[edit] Evil Swell

Blood Aim (lvl 4, updates every 4 levels): Increases the amount of HP leeched by Vampire Touch and Vampire Kiss, and marginally increases the damage of Shadow and Dusk Armour. It is also required for skills in the Cruel Spell and Dim Haze lines, making it essential for all Warlocks.

[edit] Cruel Spell

Vampire Touch (lvl 4, updates every 4 levels): Leeches HP from an opponent, and causes Disease status. The amount leeched is absolute damage, and is based far more on the level of the skill, the level of Blood Aim and the damage of your weapon than the amount of int you have (although int does help), making it a skill worth getting for str characters with a warlock sub, however the most important thing about the Vampire skills is that they cause Disease status. Disease status raises the probability of debuffs that are the same level as the target and a level below the target to 100%, and makes debuffs 2 levels below about 50% likely to work. What it does NOT do is raise the actual level of the debuffs, although you can get 9level disease on someone with 8level Holy Spell you cannot get any further debuffs on them. Cooldown of 5 seconds.

Shadow Armour (lvl 20, updates every 4 levels): A DoT skill that does absolute damage to up to 5 people within 5.0m of you (with a reduction in damage for each additional target). This is a very good skill in 1v1 PvP as it acts like an extra DoT against any melee opponents, and it keeps damaging them when you are stunned/ knocked down. Worth getting if you PvP as a warlock, but it doesn’t stay after a weapon switch. Duration of 16 seconds, cooldown of 20 seconds.

Scream Mask (lvl 24 [ but requires a lvl 28 passive], updates every 10 levels): Arguably one of the best buffs in the game, this causes any hit on the target to have a 35% chance of stunning the attacker, provided the attacker is within 15.0m. Does not need to be kept up to date, but anything less that 1 level below the attacker will have a decreased probability. You can Scream Mask up to 2 people at the same time, but you can’t Scream Mask yourself and it doesn’t stay after a weapon change. Duration of 2 minutes, cooldown of 2 seconds.

Reflect (lvl 40, updates every 10 levels): A self-buff that gives you a 35% chance to return at least 30% of the damage done to you by an attacker who is within 15.0m to them as absolute damage. Absolute damage/trap damage/damage you take from a quota is not reflected. Every 10 levels/1 extra skill level the percentage damage returned increases by 15%, and it can go over 100% (goes to 105% at lvl 90/Reflect lvl6). Worth getting if you PvP as a Warlock, or if you’re str and you want to take off your armour and get a nuker killed by reflect (anyone who dies from reflected damage has to respawn or get ressed). Duration of 45 seconds, cooldown of 2 minutes, disappears after a weapon change.

Vampire Kiss (lvl 50, updates every 4 levels): The same as Vampire Touch, but it is a 15.0m AoE that hits up to 5 targets. Updates in between Vampire Kiss, so they alternate between which has the higher level Disease, but most of the time their Disease is equal. If used amongst a group of enemies this can restore pretty much all of an int Warlock’s HP. Essential for all warlocks, requires Vampire Touch lvl 11 but does not require Touch to be kept up to date. Cooldown of 20 seconds.

Dusk Armour (lvl 70, updates every 4 levels): A continuation of Shadow Armour, the only difference is that it looks much cooler. Requires lvl 12 Shadow Armour.

Advanced Reflect (lvl 80, updates every 10 levels): The same as Reflect, but it casts Reflect on every party member. Since it is a party buff will stay after a weapon switch, making it essential for all Warlocks. Duration of 45 seconds, cooldown of 2 minutes which isn’t shared with Reflect.

[edit] Dim Haze

Slumber (lvl16, updates every 10 levels): 80% chance to cause Sleep, a status that causes the target to be unable to do anything for 20 seconds, but attacking the target will wake them up. Essential for all Warlocks due to the Trap-Sleep combination. Cooldown of 10 seconds that is shared with Deep Slumber.

Wheel Bind (lvl 24, updates every 10 levels): 80% chance to cause Panic status, and is the only debuff that is unaffected by Holy Spell, and the only status aside from Bleed. This halves the amount of HP healed by both pots and skills, and gives the Chinese autopot a 4 second delay, although since most “players” are bots and they use the bot autopot this delay doesn’t work on them. Essential for all warlocks. Duration of 15 seconds, cooldown of 5 seconds.

Mirage (lvl 40, updates every 6 levels): Reduces the aggro of up to 5 monsters within 25.0m that are attacking you, but increases the aggro of monsters that aren’t if you’re in a party. It’s the only skill that doesn’t require a warlock rod, and it’s pretty much useless for everything except dragging Ongs onto low levels that are being powerlevelled. Cooldown of 10 seconds.

Deep Slumber (lvl 76, updates every 10 levels): The AoE version of Slumber, this has an 80% chance to cause sleep to up to 3 people in a 10.0m radius. Worth getting for the possibility of multiple Trap-Sleep at the 90 cap, or just to irritate a lot of people. Cooldown of 20 seconds, shared with Slumber.

Phantasma (lvl 80, updates every 6 levels): Just an updated version of Mirage with 5.0m extra range. Requires lvl 6 Mirage and isn’t really worth getting.

Recovery Bind (lvl 84, updates every 10 levels): AoE version of Wheel Bind, 80% chance to cause Panic status to up to 3 people within a 10.0m radius. Essential for all Warlocks. Duration of Panic is 15 seconds, cooldown is 10 seconds.

If you’ve found this useful feel free to stop by and give Apricot 10k. Asking for plvl will get you Impotent status.
