Z3rgling's Trade Run Guide

Hello, This is Z3rgling from Hurricane Guild.

Thought I would do a favor on behalf of the Avalon union. After seeing the hectic trade run 2 days ago, I thought I'd write up a guide for traders.
So, I will start off easy with a brief guide to trading from the SRO guide.

[Only registered users can see links. ]

So now that I’ve explained everything to you through that website.
Let us start off with a little bit of basic training and a brief summary.

Trade run requirements for Dummies
-To do a trade run, you must wear a flag which can be purchased at every town from the Merchant NPC
-In order to wear the flag, you must talk to the Merchant again and grant yourself a nickname (This will be your trader nickname unless you want to change it later on for a fee)
-You also need a horse or camel which can be purchased at the stables in every town (Purchase recall item > Trans > Camel/Horse)
-You need goods which can be purchased at every town. (Merchant NPC) {My first bloody mistake when I first started SRO was thinking me getting a horse and walking to DW was all I needed to go. I walked out of south gate and didn’t go very far}
-Only level 20 and above can do trade runs
-From level 20-39/40?, 1 star trades cannot be killed by player thieves
-From level 40/41+, 1 star trades CAN be killed by player thieves (regardless of their character level)

-When you purchase goods there are 5 different levels of difficulty:

##1 star (Easy): Basic trade, Spawn very small amount of thieves lower level than you
**NOTE: FROM THIS POINT ON, YOU CAN GET OWNED BY PLAYER THIEVES**
##2 star (Easy): Basic trade, Spawn small amount of thieves lower or equal level than you
##3 star (Medium): A average trade, spawn a nice amount of thieves equal or higher level than you
##4 star (Hard): A harder trade, spawns very nice amounts of thieves equal or higher level than you
##5 star (Hardest): I hope you live

When doing a trade run you should…
1. Stay alive
2. Stay safe
3. Carry pots for both YOUR character and your transport (From Potion dealer and transport from stables)
4. Amount of pots that should be carried: 1 star (Level 39/40 below) = 25-50 X LARGES, 1 star (Above 40/41) = At least 150 X Larges, 2 stars and above = 250-500 X Larges, YES 500!
Why? If a player thief comes on, you better hop on your transport walk straight to your destination and pot it like mother friggin crazy
5. BRING EXTRA CAMEL/HORSE SCROLLS (5-10 WOULD NOT HURT)
6. If you have a hunter and doing a multiple star run, STAY ON YOUR TRANSPORT BE PREPARED TO POT AT ALL TIMES
7. In big parties of multi stars USE CAMEL OR OX, DO NOT USE A HORSE

TIPS ON UNION/GUILD/FRIEND MULTIPLE STAR TRADE RUNS

This is the important bit, when you are doing a trade run with a mass load of people, you should consider that you have other people doing multiple star trade runs with you. This means that you should bring, yes, like mentioned above 250-500 X Larges. Say you have someone new to trade running and they brought 50 medium pots thinking they’ll live a 5 star. You can be there to provide and care and nurse them with your big pile of animal pots.

Also, it is HIGHLY recommended that instant voice communication is used when doing a trade run that way you yell for help and get attention to all the members of your party INSTANTELY. Note: IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED YOU BE IN A PARTY so 1. You can look cool trade running 2. Instant communication to the people who don’t use mics

One thing I learned from the previous union run is that the HIGHEST LEVEL trader should lead reason providing that when I lead the union trade run 2 days ago, I got SMACKED by level 52+ thieves, yes D7 thieves were hitting my D5 camel. So the choices are, the highest level trader leads the lower levels and the lower levels trace the high level leader OR the high level trader should isolate his/herself a safe distance so the thieves do not spawn and kill the low level traders (Hence this is why you bring so many X Larges because of high level traders spawning thieves on you either purposely or accidentally). You can put an end to it, bring a big load of transport pots and you’ll be fine.

It is tempting to show your SOM and SUN weapons to your union/guild/friend(s) but Z3rgling’s advice for dummies does say STAY ON YOUR TRANSPORT, The last thing you need is a level 20 getting whacked by a D7 spear thief because you decided to show your SUN Glavie Level 16. So stay on your transport and show it when you’re in a SAFE ZONE (TOWN NOT MANYANGS) then you can show off and nobody would care. Another reason to stay on your transport, HUNTERS job is to kill thieves, not traders, they are there to HELP you not KILL you, with exceptions (Corrupt, LemonKiss =D) so they always have your back unless they’re lying face first on the ground because of a level 90 thief in zerk. What is important is that THEY ARE THERE TO PROTECT YOU SO STAY ON YOUR TRANSPORT AND WORRY ABOUT POTTING THE HELL OUT OF IT.

As mentioned, USE A CAMEL, although it is slower, it can take much more damage. One thing I learned was that when D7 traders spawn at the same time in a 5 star run, approximately 20 thieves will spawn and chances are 15 of them will be hitting the LEADER OF THE RUN (Whoever the low levels are tracing). I learned that no matter how fast you press the pot button for your camel, 15 D7 thieves will win the camel ANYTIME, so it is MANDATORY the hunters should look out for the leader FIRST. This is how I died multiple times doing that trade run because whenever the 2 D7 traders spawn thieves at the same time, I find that 75% of the thieves WILL hit the leader so it is MANDATORY for the leader to carry 500 X Larges (Lesson I learned) and that the hunter should put leader as first priority when D7 thieves spawn.

NEVER STOP TRACING, if you’re one of the low level traders and are frozen, when you unfreeze, TRACE THE LEADER ASAP, it is HIGHLY difficult for the leader to notice anything at the back especially in BIG parties and it lags the leader to have to look back all the time (HENCE USE VENT). A lead hunter will instruct the leader to wait IF IT IS NECESSARY or multiple transports are lagging behind.

AS TRADER LEADER NEVER STOP MOVING, if the lead hunter tells you to stop and wait, DON’T STOP but wait. The secret is walking in circles. Many Avalon and BHA union members had a practice run in Jagan on how to walk in circles, and it is a relatively simple concept. If you’re trader leader click somewhere very far and then do small circles OR easier way click the sky that’s ahead of you, and tap the arrow keys to the LEFT OR RIGHT NOT BOTH. If the hunter tells you to SLOW DOWN, walk in zig zags, so do NOT walk straight. This can be done by clicking to the left of the screen, let it walk to the left, then take a sharp right and walk. This in turn slows down the trade so someone behind can catch up. So summary is NEVER STOP MOVING.

ELECT A TRADER AND HUNTER LEADER (ONE WITH MICROPHONE AND HEARING ACCESS), Trade and hunter leader NEED to communicate. Whether someone needs pot in the trader party, or a trade is lagging behind, THE HUNTER LEADER will tell the TRADER leader instructions to SUCEED the trade run.
NEVER LISTEN TO OTHER HUNTERS WHEN TRADING, the only hunter that you should listen to is the LEADER, because he is leader for a reason, (experience) the trader leader SHOULD LISTEN to the hunter leader at ALL TIMES AND NO ONE ELSE.

When teleporting from one Ferry to another, DON’T! Not until the trader leader gets confirmation from the hunter that it is safe to cross. Why? SIMPLE, 5 Level 80 thieves are waiting on the other side and you teleport, you are going to be VERY disorganized and fresh meat when you get over. The trader leader WILL INSTRUCT YOU WHEN IT’S SAFE TO TELEPORT.

DO NOT AFK WHEN TRACING, obviously you need to be there to pot your camel almost 24/7, and in case the trade leader dies or you’re standing on top of a dead character, the hunters can resurrect the dead character. If you don’t want to lose your trade, DON’T AFK when tracing the leader even if IT IS BORING, it will BE MUCH MORE BENEFICIAL IN THE FUTURE.

IF THE TRADE LEADER DIES SEPARATE! DO NOT STOP MOVING! The low level traders either walk in a circle but DON’T STOP MOVING. It is VERY IMPORTANT that you don’t stop moving unless you want to die because it is very important that you should keep moving unless you want to get hit by lightning thiefs CONSTANTELY. When his transport comes back up, TRACE HIM AGAIN to save time.

IF ANY TRADER TRANSPORT DIES (INCLUDING LEADER), LEAVE THE AUTO SHARED PARTY, staying in the auto shared party will only make you unable to spawn a transport because it takes 21 seconds after combat to spawn a transport. So LEAVE THE PARTY and when you respawn the transport SOMEONE WILL INVITE YOU BACK INTO THE PARTY SO DON’T FEAR.

Solo Trade Run

Although you are allowed to do trade runs when you are at level 20, going from JG - DW will be suicide unless you have someone higher level to kill monsters for you. Even with the JG - Bandit Stronghold run, I personally, don't think it is worth the time to do a run so short and yet make a 5k profit. I rather get that killing mobs and leveling rather than doing a run but it is your choice. A suggested level to do trade runs from JG -DW is level 24 or higher but even then, Earth Ghost will kill you quite quickly.

Going from Const - Smark is not wise at level 24 at all. Euro's should most likely do trade runs at approximately level 30+ because as mentioned above, you won't be killed by Earth ghost, Just flying turkeys and Closiers. However, if you have a hunter high level, or a mob killed high level walking with you then it won't be a problem.

My suggestion when doing a solo trade run is doing 1 star, of course this goes for low levels, higher levels can do bigger runs but however, lose your loot at your own risk.

TIPS FOR SOLO RUN
1. USE HORSES, MUCH FASTER, I THINK CAMEL WOULD BE A WASTE OF TIME
2. BRING 20-50 X LARGES TO REPOT
3. DO 1 STAR
4. KEEP YOUR TRADE MOVING, DON'T STOP UNLESS YOU'RE KILLING THIEVES
5. TAUNT OTHER THIEVES WHO TRY TO POP YOU (LEVEL 39/40 AND BELOW)
